George William Finch, age 76, from Toppenish, passed away at his home. George came to the Yakima area from Massachusetts in the early 1970’s as a volunteer with VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America). He worked with the Nooksac Indian Nation. After completing his service with VISTA he was the first recipient of the Robert Kennedy Memorial Award that exemplified RFK ideals. He worked with the migrant workers of the Yakima area. Also, he worked with Northwest Rural Opportunities. He spent his entire career working for the rights of farm workers. After his retirement, he was a freelance writer for the local PBS station, business, and agriculture magazines. His love for jazz also brought him to the local radio station as a disc jockey. 
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Frances Finch, of Weymouth, Massachusetts and locally by a sister, Anne Byerrum, of Yakima. He is survived by a brother, Jerry Finch, of CA, a sister, Avis Willis, of Kentucky, and locally by nephews, Jason Gaudet (Lili), of Selah and Eric Gaudet. He is also survived by a nephew, Earl Willis, and niece, Heather Willis of KY.
