Alvina R. Dormaier, 79, died on January 4, 2019 at home. She was born on September 7, 1939 in Scottsbluff, NE the daughter of Homer and Dolly Holmes. Her family later moved to Vancouver, WA where she grew up and graduated from Vancouver High School in 1957. She met her future husband in 1958 when she moved to Yakima for work, they were married on June 27, 1959, they would have completed 60 years together this year. She worked for 19 ½ years in Washington State Employment Security Fraud Unit and then in the Washington State Fire Marshal and Insurance Commissioners offices. 
Alvina was a devout member of the Yakima Community Church where she spent many days decorating and preparing the church for services. She enjoyed doing needle point in her spare time, making them to give to others. Alvina and Duane enjoyed traveling together, spending time in Israel and Italy. 
Alvina is survived by her husband of 60 years, Duane, a son, David (Madonna), and five grandchildren, Eli, Levi, David, Evangeline, and Joel. She is also survived by her siblings, Ilene (Mel) Lindsley of Vancouver, WA, Carol (Glenn) Fidler of Kemper, TX, and Marv Holmes of Vancouver, WA. She is preceded in death by her parents. 
Viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Brookside Funeral Home (500 W Prospect, Moxee, WA 98936) from 2:00 to 6:00 pm. Graveside Services will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Terrace Heights Memorial Park (3001 Terrace Heights Dr, Yakima, WA 98901) at 9:00 am followed by a Celebration of Life at Yakima Community Church (7901 W Nob Hill Blvd, Yakima, WA 98908) at 12:00 pm.
