David Hurst Vaver Sr., of Ellensburg, WA. Passed away on December 22, 2018 while riding horses in Cross Plains, TX. He was born on May 30, 1941 in Tacoma, WA.
He graduated from Tacoma High School. Following high school, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard for three years. After being honorably discharged, he became part of a midget car racing team followed by spirit cars and motorcycles. He began working as a longshoreman in Tacoma with the ILW Local 23 and retired in 1993.
On December 2, 1992 Dave married Linda Mai Johnson. In 1992, Dave and Linda moved to Ellensburg and purchased a farm on Fox Road. He enjoyed the rural lifestyle of Ellensburg and got involved with raising cattle, hay farming and hauling horses to and from Texas. Dave joined the Cascade Cutting Horse Association where he served as Vice President for many years. He enjoyed cutting horse competitions up to his final moments.
Together Dave and Linda LOVED having the grandchildren live with them on the farm. Throughout the years they have had six of their grandchildren live with them.
His love for kids and their sports was evident in every conversation he would have with friends and family. He attended Kittitas basketball games. Wrestling matches and the occasional softball game usually eating his one bag of popcorn.
When Dave was not hauling horses, helping with the hay harvest or working around the farm, you would find him hanging out at the local mini-mart having his “one pump hazelnut latte with no foam” or his Dr. Pepper and visiting with and playing pinochle with the local farmers.
Dave is survived by his wife Linda, sons; David (Karen) Vaver Jr., Keith (Victoria) Vaver, daughter; Tracy Vaver and granddaughter Kayvonne Vaver. Step-children; Vincent (Linda) Dean, Jackie (Melissa) Dean, Jodie Dean and Franklin Dean. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded by his parents and two sisters; Laura and Beverly.
