Sandra “Sandy” Louise (Marshall) Hess, 71, passed away peacefully in her home on October 31, 2018.

Sandy was born on October 19, 1947 to Vern and Mary Marshall and was the oldest of their four children. She was raised in Toppenish, Washington and graduated from Toppenish High School in 1966. After graduation, Sandy moved to Seattle where she worked for Boeing and Bachi Steamship. She has always been very patriotic, and she enjoyed hosting Armed Services Dances for the USO where she made many lifelong friends.

In 1976, Sandy met and married the love of her life, Jim Hess, and they were happily married for 39 years. They returned to the Yakima area soon after and opened their home to their stepchildren Tom, Sonia and Yolanda and not long after, their daughter Corey was born. Sandy and Jim enjoyed travelling together in their motor home which took them on adventures to Utah, Alaska, California, and many more.

Sandy had an inner sparkle that could light up any room, she got her energy from laughing and helping others. Sandy took pride in the work she did for the Department of Social & Health Services and retired as a supervisor after 27 years of service. She was a very active person and loved the friendships she made playing and coaching softball. She enjoyed shopping, playing Bingo, and hosting card parties in her home. Sandy made friends wherever she went and over the last few years she enjoyed being a member of the Union Gap Ag Museum where she volunteered her time. She also joined the Yakima American Legion where she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and where she enjoyed dancing and playing cards. Sandy was a natural optimist which may attribute to her legendary good luck.

Sandy loved her family and they loved her dearly. Sandy was the type of person you could call any time of the day and she would make you feel better and loved. She was the best Grandma in the world to her grandkids and she rarely missed a sporting event, school play, or any type of celebration. Everyone loved her snickerdoodles!

Sandy is survived by her daughter, Corey (Dan) Bugni, grandsons, Chase and Max Bugni, sister, Dixie (Mark) Herron, brother, Randy (Lori) Marshall, niece, Jill (Andy) Hamilton, stepchildren, Tom (Michelle) Heide, Sonia Patnode, and Yolanda Hewitt, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

Sandy is preceded in death by her husband, Jim Hess, infant son, Jacob Hess, parents, Vern and Mary Marshall, sister, Kathy (Marshall) Bramini, mother in law, Bessie Tasler, and father in law, Jim Jiminez.
