Karen Marie Kruegel, peacefully passed away and took God’s hand and entered Paradise on her 70th Birthday, September 8, 2018.  She was surrounded by her loving family who supported and cared for her throughout her 11-year battle with ovarian cancer. She was born September 8th, 1948 in Buffalo, NY to Commander Harry N and Kathleen Hansen.  She graduated from Cranston High East in Rhode Island in 1966.  She met the love of her life at a Coast Guard picnic.  They were married August 13, 1966 at Quonset Point Naval Station in Rhode Island.  They had three children; Michael, Amie and Nancy.  They lived in several locations across the country before settling in Moxee, WA, where they have lived for 25 years.  

Karen was a loving and involved parent and a doting grandparent.  She retired early to care for the two youngest grandchildren.  She enjoyed camping, boating, biking, Zumba, walking dogs, knitting, and spending time with family.  She attended church at Holy Rosary Church in Moxee.  Through all her trials, her faith in the Lord remained strong.
 
She enjoyed volunteering.  She loved dogs and volunteered at and supported the Yakima Humane Society.  She always had at least one dog of her own.  She volunteered as a CRE teacher at Holy Rosary Parish for 20 years.  She also volunteered with the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 83.
 
She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Edward Kruegel; her son, Michael Kruegel, her daughter, Amie Kruegel, her daughter, Nancy Hartman and husband Jason Sager. She is also survived by her six wonderful grandchildren; Amanda and husband Jason, Kirsten, Carrie and husband Jonathan, Cody, Boe and Luke.
 
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 12:00 pm at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Moxee, followed by Inurnment at Holy Rosary Cemetery.  There will be a reception to follow at the Holy Rosary Parish Hall. 
 
In lieu of flowers please make donations to either the Humane Society of Yakima (yakimahumane.org) or Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance (give.ocrfa.org).  Contributions can also be sent to Brookside Funeral Home (PO Box 1267, Moxee, WA  98936), who is caring for the family.
