Jared Yoakum, 35, of Selah, moved on from this life to be with his Heavenly Father on August 23rd, 2018, after a five-year long battle with cancer. The world was greeted by Jared Aaron Yoakum on May 16th, 1983 in Yakima and it has never been the same since.

As a child, he had a love for legos, baseball, karate, and reading. At Selah High School and later at Yakima Valley Community College, he was a prominent member of the drama club and had a contagious sense of humor. He was an avid snowboarder, his passion for which really developed in high school and continued for the rest of his life. Many of his close friendships were forged at White Pass, his home mountain. He worked as a snowboard instructor for several seasons at the pass, as well as working in the terrain park and as event staff. He was a gifted photographer and put his camera skills to use at White Pass for years. Jared went to college at Western Washington University, where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in journalism. Jared was also a wildland firefighter for the US Forest Service for multiple seasons. On September 18, 2010, Jared married his soulmate, Justine Sinclair. They were partners in all aspects of life, from hobbies, art, travel, snowsports, projects around the house, and the multitude of endeavors that they undertook. Jared worked for several years as a surveyor for Huibregtse Louman Associates in Yakima, before starting his own marketing business, The Engagency. Eventually, Jared would begin working with Yakima Valley Tourism as the marketing manager. His passion for promoting the Yakima Valley goes well beyond his occupation. His desire was to further make our great patch of Earth a thriving community full of active people who are equally captivated by the beauty of our environment and all it has to offer. From hop vines to mountains, vineyards to rivers, Jared loved our home and cared deeply about its future.

On June 13th, 2015, Jared and Justine were blessed with their daughter, Olivia. Since she was born he loved watching her discover and grow, always wanting nothing but the best in life for her. “To my dearest Olivia: no matter what life hands you, know that I will always be watching over you, guiding you, empowering you. I will watch you gracefully move through fear and doubt, because you will know your daddy is there above you, guiding your steps, ensuring you’re on the right path.”

Jared is survived by his wife Justine, daughter Olivia, parents Keith and Kay, brother Nick (Angelique), sister Missy Jackson (Jeremy, Brooklynn and Jace), his in-laws Steve and Judy Sinclair, sister-in-law Sharell Calhoun (Joseph and Gracie), multiple aunts and uncles, cousins, and a host of friends and co-workers. He was compassionate, giving, and selfless, but perhaps above all, Jared was a fighter. He inspired hope amongst his friends and family throughout his battle with cancer and exhibited an inner strength and resolve in a way that will never be forgotten.

Please join us in celebrating his life at the White Pass Ski Resort on September 15th, 2018. Doors open at 2PM and service starts at 3PM. Please RSVP at Celebration of Life for Pirate Red on Facebook, we will post updates on there as well.

“To everyone who supported me throughout these last five years, I can’t thank you enough. Thank you from the very depths of my heart for your love, compassion, and devotion. There is no possible way I could have fought as hard as I did without your support and devotion. To say I love you all just doesn’t do the emotion enough justice.”  - Jared Yoakum
