 Joyce Blair Osthus, 90, of Yakima, peacefully passed away on July 27, 2018, at Cottage In The Meadow.  She was born to Joseph and Jennie Brooks on August 4, 1927 in Duncan, British Columbia.  She lived on a float house on Lake Cowichan in Youbou, on Vancouver Island, BC, moving to Seattle, in 1945.


Joyce worked at Kraft Foods where she met her future husband, Henry Osthus, and they married on October 5, 1947, in Seattle, WA.  To this marriage was born 2 children, Denise and Dennis.  Joyce was a great cook and did recipe development as well as prepared food for photography. She also worked as a secretary in various offices.  She was a loving, caring person, as well as a tireless caregiver for her numerous family members and friends in the Seattle area and in Sun Lakes, AZ, where she wintered for many years. She moved to Yakima in 2002 and was baptized into the Orthodox Church in 2005.


She is survived by her children, Denise (Fr. Joseph) Copeland and Dennis (Jackie) Osthus, as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Jody Makrina (Fr. Michael), and their son, Simeon Shanbour; Seth Thomas (Camarin) and their children, Sr. Anastasia, James, Joseph, Marie, Nicholas, Margaret, Seth, John, Andrew Copeland; Leif (Adrienne) and their son, Kai Osthus; Andrea, and her children, Tobias, Zachariah, Theoden Cochran; Hillary Pelagia (Fr. Gregory) and their children, Paul, Benjamin, Phoebe, Damiani Edwards; Leah (Charlie) and their daughters, Miah, Nova Chavez; Evan (Rosie) and their son, Logan Osthus; Ian Osthus; and extra grandson, Darko (Michelle) and their children, Elena, Aleksandra, Ana, and Veselin Hrle. Joyce is also survived by her 2 nieces and nephew, and their families. She is preceded in death by her husband, in 2003, and her siblings, Colin Brooks and Doris Bray.


Trisagion Prayers will be offered on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at 6:00PM and An Orthodox Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 30, 2018 at 10:00AM, both at Holy Cross Orthodox Church (1004 Cornell Ave., Yakima), followed by a Graveside Service at Tahoma Cemetery.
