Ralph Huck, 87, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 10th. Ralph was born on July 15th, 1930 to John and Eva (Dukart) Huck in Sheffield, North Dakota. In 1936 he moved with his family to the Yakima Valley.

Ralph attended St. Joseph and St. Paul grade schools, and Marquette High School. In 1950 he married the love of his life, Betty Chouinard. They raised their family in a home built by Ralph with the help of his brothers.

In 1947 Ralph went to work as a carpenter apprentice, then as an apprentice plasterer. He worked in this trade until 1968. In September of 1968, he went to work for Yakima County as a Real Property Appraiser. In 1977, Ralph ran for office and was elected Yakima County Assessor. Ralph proudly held this position for 16 years before starting his own appraisal business.

Ralph never officially retired. After closing his appraisal business, he went on to work for Yakima Country Board of Equalization. He also was deeply involved in the restoration of the Ahtanum Mission and served as a lay sacristan for Holy Family Parish for many years. Ralph was the first Grand Knight of the Ahtanum Mission Council #6097 Knights of Columbus. He was truly a great man who lived a life of faith and giving to others. He was thoughtful, kind, and filled with enthusiasm. A tireless worker who would roll up his sleeves and be there when needed. Ralph was strength to so many and a role model to us all. He will be greatly missed.

Ralph is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty Huck. His children, Sandra (Mick) Nunn, Karen (James) Taylor, Gerry Huck, and Gail (Rick) Gregory, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
