Harvey Kresge

Harvey Howard Kresge, 89, passed away May 8, 2018. He was born Sept. 30, 1928, in Patricia, Alberta, Canada, the youngest of three boys to Layton and Bertha (Mortiz) Kresge. As a youngster Harvey and his family immigrated to the Kittitas Valley in a horse drawn wagon. The family settled on a farm on Tjossem Road. Harvey attended Denmark School and graduated from Kittitas High School in 1947.

 
In 1951, Harvey enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served as an airplane mechanic during the Korean Conflict. Honorably discharged in 1954, Harvey came back to the Kittitas Valley where he eventually met his wife, Geneva Kroetsching, while on a double date. The two later married on Oct. 6, 1956 and bought their homeplace on the Kittitas Highway where they raised their family. Harvey continued to farm until opening Kresge Nursery in the late 1970s. 
 
Harvey loved watching old Western movies on TV. He enjoyed going to the beach, assembling jigsaw puzzles and growing great tomato plants for family and friends. He was known for his sense of humor and meeting friends for breakfast every day in Kittitas. 
 
Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and older brother, Art. He is survived by his brother, Jim Kresge of Lenox, Mass.; children, Kay (Dan Leader) Kresge of Ellensburg, Doug (Dee) Kresge of Milton, Mark Kresge of Yakima and Ann (Ray) Jennings of Ellensburg. 
 
A graveside service will be held Monday, May 14 at 11 a.m. at High Valley Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held immediately following at the Kittitas Community Church. 
 
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Kittitas Community Church or a charity of your choice in care of Brookside Funeral Home 101 E 2nd Ave. Ellensburg, WA 98926
