Our sweet loving wife and mother, Winifred H Johnson, 95, passed away April 27, 2018 from a courageous battle with cancer. She was born September 8, 1922 to A.V. and Ruth Lamb Harrel, in her grandmother’s home.

She belonged to several clubs in high school including band. She graduated from Thorp High School in 1940.  She had a special dog named Toodles and a horse named Dolly. She loved 4H learning, cooking & sewing. Momma spent many years helping her mother cook for hired men on the farm. She oversaw the desserts.

When she moved to town, she attended 2 years of college at Central. She worked at Barge Hall registration & the bookstore.

While at a dance, at the YMCA, her brother Paul introduced her to her future husband and love of her life, Lester “Wayne” Johnson. They married August 2, 1946 at First Christian Church here in Ellensburg.

She was a stay at home mom, she loved sewing for her daughters and their dolls. Mom was always there when we got home from school. As a family we enjoyed family dinners, camping trips, the World’s Fair, zoo, picnics, gardening & attending horse shows, that Judy was involved in. She loved just staying home and being together.

Mom belonged to First Christian Church, serving as a deaconess and bazaar chairman, she enjoyed time with the women’s group. She was a 70 plus year member of Rebekah’s Fraternal Order and The Order of Eastern Star. She was an awesome 4H leader teaching her 4H girls how to cook and sew. Mom and I loved sewing together. She was able to sew on her serger and help with craft projects up until a few months ago. She also belonged to Arvida Club. She loved the morning exercise class at the senior center until she could no longer attend.

Mom and dad spent time with their school and college friends, over the years doing dinners and watching Mariner games. She and her group of lady friends had fun getting together for lunch to celebrate their birthdays.  After Wayne retired, they bought an RV and took several trips with her brother and sister-in-law, spending a winter or 2 in Arizona. They also belonged to the local RV club for several years going on monthly trips to different RV parks. She enjoyed RVing. When that got to be too much, the RV was sold, she enjoyed gardening, being outside, playing golf and helping Linda babysit the cousins. Abby and Colton loved her sandwiches. Mom also enjoyed just staying home with her husband and their pets.

Mom had two of the best caregivers who loved her. Thank You so much Shannon and Patti for the loving care you gave her and her family.

She is survived by her husband Wayne, daughters Linda Johnson and Judy (Bill) Roberts and, sister-in-law Betty Eigenman, many nieces, nephews, cousins and her most precious beloved dog JJ.

She was predeceased by her parents and brother Paul Harrel.
