George Joseph Sevigny, 85, passed away peacefully on the morning of April 3, 2018.  George was born May 12, 1932, the fifth child of Arthur and Josephine Sevigny. He was born in South Junction, Manitoba, Canada.  When he was six the family moved to Red Lake Falls, Minnesota. They eventually settled in Moxee, WA.
He attended Holy Rosary Grade School and graduated from Marquette High School in 1951.  George then joined the Marine Corps. He was a proud Marine, and even more proud that three of his sons followed in his footsteps.  He met his future wife, Shirley Rae Wilkins. They were married November 22, 1952 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Moxee. They purchased a small ranch in the lower valley. It was there that George and Shirley raised their six sons, one daughter, and a heck of a lot of horses. The rest is history.
He founded Sevigny Construction in 1965. He said of his career, “I believed I could do anything I set my mind to,” and he did. He and his son Mike operated Sevigny Construction for over forty years. George and Shirley raised Thoroughbred horses for twenty years and followed the horseracing circuit, combining their love of horses and travel.  It was exciting to see which of his 28 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren Grandpa chose to name his race horses after.  His other passion was watching his sons compete in wrestling.  He and Shirley rarely missed a wrestling “bout” which no doubt reminded him of his boxing days at Marquette High School.
Survivors include his siblings, Marie Green, Angele DeGooyer, Leonard Sevigny, Juliette Rogers, Roger Sevigny, Bernadette Tito, Daniel Sevigny, and Steve Sevigny; children and their spouses; James (Patricia) Sevigny, Thomas (Lisa) Sevigny of Yakima, Mike Sevigny of Zillah, Jeff Sevigny of Grandview, Mary Ann (Clint) Wilson of Moxee, Richard (Shannon) Sevigny of Zillah, and John (Kathleen) Sevigny of Winnweiler, Germany; twenty-eight grandchildren: Josh, Joe, Rebecca, Sara, Jude, Rachel, Daniel, Luke, Laura, Matthew, Emily, Ben, Arthur, Kim, Katie, Jimmy, Madeline, Amy, Jacob, Margueritte, Monica, Molly Jo, Mary Grace, Malia, John Paul, Madeleine, Caeli, Michael.  Twenty-four great-grandchildren, Kyle, Olivia, Sy, Max, Sloan, Paige, Emmett, Eli, Alaina, Bostyn, Lawson, Grayson, Avery, Weston, Levi, David, Lillyanne, Sarah, Taylor, Emma, Blaze, Titus, and Kinsley. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, his parents, brothers Bernard and Louie, sisters Pauline and Caroline and grandson Alec James Heneghen.
Vigil Services will be held Friday, April 13, 2018 at 6:00PM at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Moxee.  Mass Of Christian Burial will be Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 10:00AM at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, followed by a Graveside Service with Military Honors at  Holy Rosary Cemetery.  Memorial Contributions may be made to the Holy Rosary Cemetery Foundation c/o Brookside Funeral Home, PO Box 1267, Moxee, WA 98936. Online condolences may be left at www.brooksidefhc.com
The family would especially like to thank Del and Cheryl Miles of Lola Kay Adult Family Home for the compassionate care of our father and family during his stay in hospice.  George passed away surrounded by his brothers and sisters, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In George’s own words “C’est La Vie.”
