Martha Anna Waldbauer, 98, of Yakima, peacefully passed away at Harmony House Adult Family Home on April 3, 2018.  She was born on February 15, 1920 near Ely, Iowa to Mathias and Anna Kust. She grew up on the small family farm near Ely, the youngest of four children.

At age 17 she married Frank Dvorak. Her daughter Evelyn Vogel (nee Dvorak) was born in 1939. Her son Robert Dvorak was born in 1945. In 1947 she married Leo Henry Mitchell. She and Leo briefly lived in Yakima in the late forties before returning to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where they raised two children, her daughter Kathleen Lary, born in 1947, and her son Thomas Mitchell, born in 1957. She and Leo planned for many years to return to Yakima to retire. In 1972 she returned with her husband and son, Thomas. Her daughter, Kathleen Lary had already moved to Tacoma. In 1975 she married Lewis Waldbauer and lived with him for almost 40 years in Yakima.

At an early age she began swimming to relieve chronic back pain. She was a member of the Yakima YMCA since 1972 and swam there several times a week until she was 95. She was also an avid reader and loved animals, but most especially cats. She loved unconditionally and took many lonely people into her circle. Sunday family dinners in Cedar Rapids were filled with many guests: boarders, widows and widowers. She gave her love and laughter to all her friends and family.

She is survived by her sons, Robert (Beula) Dvorak and Thomas Mitchell; step-children, Katherine (Thomas) Ljungren, Larry (Marlene) Waldbauer, and Daniel (Marlene) Waldbauer; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Frank Dvorak, Leo Mitchell and Lewis Waldbauer; her children Evelyn Vogel and Kathleen Lary; and her brothers and sisters Joseph Kust, Libbie Turpkosh (nee Kust), and George Kust.
