Richard “Ric” Douglas Jr., 63, of Yakima, passed away on March 3, 2018 at Cottage In The Meadow.  Ric was born in Hayward, CA on April 13, 1954. His family later moved north and settled on the west side of Washington in the Seattle area. He graduated from Woodway Senior High School in 1972 and shortly after joined the United States Navy as BT/YN where he would end up being stationed in the Bay Area of California and then deployed to Vietnam during the war. He would later return to the Seattle area as he took classes on auto body rebuild and refinishing at Seattle Central College. Ric eventually landed a job at Boeing as Lead Expeditor in the 767 Final Body Join. He would remain at this position for nearly 25 years.

But the fast-paced west side left something to be desired for him, and in 2005 he finally followed his parents over to the east side of the mountains where he found the laid-back atmosphere of Yakima much more his speed. It was here that he worked for CubCrafters as Material Control Technician in the KIT Department. He eventually left this job to pursue phlebotomy studies at Yakima Valley College, but after several classes of this, he ultimately decided to return to work at CubCrafters until his retirement in 2015.
In 2007 Ric happened upon Lynn at a singles group meeting, which he had been attending for a while before she had. The two hit it off almost instantly and quickly formed an inseparable friendship. It later bloomed into a budding romance until he officially asked her to be his wife in December of 2008. Though the two never officially married, he introduced Lynn as his wife to all who met them and subsequently her daughter as his daughter as well.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends as much as possible. He had a passion for cars and music, having been the drummer in several bands over the years. You were hard pressed to find a genre of music he didn’t enjoy listening to. He loved NASCAR and local antique and sports car shows, owning a 1976 Mustang II Fastback himself. He loved taking road trips with Lynn and attending as many local summer festivals and concerts with her as possible. Ric was extremely proud of his Scottish heritage and particularly enjoyed the Highland Games. Though faced with serious health problems in the last couple of years, he never lost his joy for life or his sense of humor.
He is survived by his “wife” of ten years, Lynn Carlson, her daughter and his “daughter”, Breanna Carlson, both of Yakima, his daughter, April Douglas—Kent of Marysville, WA, and his sister, Linda Smith of Rio Rancho, NM. He is proceeded in death by his father, Richard Douglas Sr., and his mother, Ethel Douglas, both of whom he missed so very much.
