Michael Eugene Harris, beloved husband, father, and grandpa passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Astria Regional Health Center in Yakima, Washington on February 21, 2018. Michael was born March 27, 1951 in Portsmouth, Virginia to William and Mary Harris. Michael was a “Navy brat” and spent most of his childhood in Seattle, Washington, after his dad was reassigned to the area. He and his mother moved again to Yakima, Washington after the untimely death of William. In Yakima he attended Washington Middle School and later Davis High School, graduating in 1970. After high school he worked as a cook at the Holiday Inn in Yakima. There he developed skills in the food industry that led to various opportunities. He held a long-standing chef position at the Yakima Country Club and later worked as kitchen manager at the Twin Bridges Inn. Everyone knew that dad’s passion was food, and nothing gave him greater pride than seeing his customers’ and his family’s faces light up at the sight of something he had prepared for them. He made many friends throughout his years in the kitchen. He worked for Schwan’s Home Delivery and later Western Materials. Dad was a very hard worker and often times worked two jobs so his family could afford to go on vacation during the summer. His favorite summer vacation spot was Seaside, Oregon. There are fond memories of him chasing his boys around on the sand, wrestling them in the swimming pool, or riding with them on the bumper cars.

Michael met the love of his life Brenda Lantrip in the eleventh grade and they were sweethearts the remainder of their school years. They had a son William in 1975 and another son, Joshua, in 1977.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Harris, step-father, Stanley Ward, sister, Linda Harris, and mother-in-law, Florence Lantrip.

He is survived by his ex-wife, Brenda Lantrip-Harris, their sons, Billy Harris (Kimberly), Joshua Harris (Heather), grandsons, Zachary Michael-Thomas Harris, Braden Rylee Harris, Chase Wyatt Harris, Jaxon Vaughn Harris, Jacoby Lyle-Daniel Harris, granddaughters, Amanda Marsh, and Jacelynn Jane-Yvonne Harris, and great grandson, Casen Michael Harris, all of Yakima, Washington.
