 Lorena Anna (Lambertson) Balch, died peacefully in her sleep on February 4th, 2018 in her home at Brookdale/ Chesterly Assisted Living in Yakima.  She was born September 30th, 1914 in Salina Kansas to Leo and Lena (Corsaut) Lambertson, the oldest of three children.

 As a young woman she attended Kansas Wesleyan and earned her teaching certificate while living with the family of her uncle, Charles Corsaut, the head coach of the Kansas State men’s basketball team. She taught elementary school from 1934 to 1938 in Salina Kansas. Later she was a substitute teacher in the Yakima school district for many years.


She met Max Balch while attending college. They married in San Diego on June 4th, 1938. She remained in San Diego while Max was serving overseas during World War II. After the war they settled in Los Angeles where Max went to work for Coca Cola. They remained in Los Angeles until 1949, when they moved to the Yakima Valley to farm. They settled in the lower valley, where she lived until moving to Yakima.


She was an active member of the Wilbur Methodist Church in White Swan and could often be found at church functions. She loved to garden and spent many happy hours tending to her yard and flowers. Lorena loved to be outdoors. She loved camping and travel. She and Max belonged to a camping club that made many outings during the summer. After Max passed she would park their camp trailer up at Rimrock Lake and spend the summers there with her grandchildren, Heather and Michael.

 An avid bridge player, she also hosted a weekly bridge club until she moved to Yakima.


She is survived by her son, Dennis (Marjorie), daughter, Deana Johnson Dreitlein, and her son, Ray Johnson. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Heather (Greg) Kistner, Michael (Jennifer) Balch, Kevin Balch; Julie Heilman, Deanna (Carl) Crowson, and Ben Johnson; great grandchildren, Steven Heilman, Quincy Heilman, Cody and Logan Balch, Lucas Kistner: sister, Mary Esping, niece, Linda (Tim) Brock and nephew, Chuck Esping; nephew, Kent Lambertson; sister in law, Normagene (Jim) Gavin, and niece, Deanna (Bob) Miymoto. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Max, her brother, Ray Lambertson, nephew, Carter Lambertson and grandson, Jerry Heilman.

 The family would like to thank her caregivers at Chesterly for their loving care for Lorena for the five years she was a resident there.  

 A Graveside Service will be held Friday, February 9, 2018 at 1:00PM at the Reservation Cemetery on West Wapato Road. Friends are invited to meet at the cemetery. Brookside Funeral Home is caring for the family.
