Craig L. Olden was born on February 6, 1957 and died on January 21, 2018. He was born to Verile and MaryEllen Olden.

Craig was educated in the lower valley and graduated from White Swan High School in 1975. Following high school, he attended the University of Washington and Y.V.C.C. He then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1981. Following his service, he went on to receive his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Central Washington University. He was a National Board-certified school counselor.

Craig was a 25-year employee of Yakima Public Schools. For the past 20 years, Craig was the school counselor at Hoover Elementary, his home away from home. Craig impacted the lives of many students, staff, and families while at Hoover and enjoyed giving back to the school community.

Craig met his wife Lisa in the fall of 1977 and they married on June 28, 1980. They were a team and supported each other for forty years. Their beloved son, Hunter, was born on December 3, 1990. Craig loved nothing more than spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter, Charlotte. He was very proud of his son Hunter and daughter-in-law Nikki, and loved watching their family grow.

Craig got sober on July 25, 1982 and stayed sober for the remainder of his life through the help of Alcoholics Anonymous. He was an inspiration and support to many other alcoholics throughout the years.

Craig is survived by his wife Lisa, son Hunter, daughter-in-law Nikki, granddaughter Charlotte, and soon to be born grandson. Also, he is survived by his brother Carl, sister-in-law Susan, sister Carol, two nieces, four nephews, and three great-nieces. Craig is preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of Craig’s life will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Hoover Elementary, (400 W Viola Ave). In lieu of flowers, donations of school supplies, backpacks of non-perishable food items, or children’s winter clothing to Hoover Elementary would honor Craig’s commitment to his school community.  Brookside Funeral Home is caring for the family.  Online condolences may be left at www.brooksidefhc.com
