Rosie Houle, 84, died peacefully at Highgate Senior Living on February 2, 2018. Rosie was born March 14, 1933 the daughter of Jack and Christine (Ackerman) Heit in Towner, North Dakota. In 1938 the family moved to the Yakima Valley where she lived the rest of her life. She graduated from Toppenish High School in 1951 and was the senior class president. This is where she met the love of her life, Leonard Houle. They were inseparable since they were 16 years old and were married on August 6, 1952. They welcomed five children in their home, one son and four daughters.

Rosie was the ultimate homemaker; she sewed, canned, cooked, made pickles, baked, and later on took up painting, tennis and traveling with Leonard. She kept the books for the family farm for many years as well. Family and friends were the most important thing to Rosie, cooking and entertaining was something that she loved. Large holiday gatherings with German food were very typical. She loved being a mom, and a nana to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her faith was very important to her and she was a long-time member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Rosie was also one of the first hospice volunteers in the valley, serving those that needed help.
Rosie is survived by her husband of 65 years, Leonard. Son and family, Roger and Armetha Houle, Dylan, Blake, and Kirk Houle. Daughter and family, Christine and Kenneth Gamache, Nicholas and Rachel Gamache (Lucien and Grant), Jacqueline Gamache, Allison Gamache and Elvis Veliz, and Andrea Gamache and Mitch Sander. Daughter and family, Barbara and Duane Groth, Derek and LeAnna Groth, and Jerad and Rachel Groth (Mila). Daughter and family Diane and Dave Pinkham, Juliana and Mark Moreno (Michael, Mariah, Matthew), Christopher Houle, and Michelle Pinkham and Patrick. Daughter and family, Debra and Mario Nunez, Mario Jr. (Eva). Sister Elenor Morin, and brother Leonard (Rosalie) Heit, aunt Ethel Ackerman, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
