Louis Charles Jarnecke, 90, of Wapato, WA, peacefully passed away on January 30, 2018, at Cottage in the Meadow. He was born on July 10, 1927, in Orchard Park, Illinois to Elmer and Emma (Boesche) Jarnecke.

Louie graduated from high school in Bensenville, IL. After graduation, he worked on the family dairy farm in Illinois.  In 1945, he traveled by train with his family and all their belongings, farm equipment and animals to Washington state where his parents started a dairy farm in Gleed. The family moved their farming operation to the Harrah area in 1960.
Louie married Ruth Beckman in 1958 and they adopted two boys, the first in 1962 and the second in 1964.  After Ruth died in 1965 of a heart attack, Louie married Esther Carlson on August 28, 1966.  They were married for 49 years.
Louie received the Dairy Family of the Year award in 1964.  He was one of four dairymen who started the Yakima Valley Cheese Company.  Many students learned about dairy farming from Louie and enjoyed ice cream bars during school field trips to the farm.  His Christian faith was very important to him and he served as an elder of the Harrah Grace Brethren Church, and was on the Flying H Youth Ranch Board for many years.
Louie never met a stranger and loved to joke.
He is survived by his sons, Chuck (Alison) Jarnecke, of Mansfield, TX, and Rick (Dana) Jarnecke, of Wapato, WA, as well as his grandchildren, Christopher Jarnecke, Jennifer and Martin Michael and Denise & Emily Jarnecke.
A Memorial Service will be held at Harrah Grace Brethren Church on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 2:00PM. Louie’s family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Brookdale Englewood Heights and Cottage in the Meadow for the exceptional care they provided to him.  The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Harrah Grace Brethren Church or Cottage in the Meadow, in care of Brookside Funeral Home (PO Box 1267, Moxee, WA 98936), who is caring for the family.
