Leona Margaret Riedlinger, 95, died on January 7, 2018, at Highgate Senior Living. Leona was born on October 28, 1922, in Wiley City, Washington, the daughter of Lewis and Lelah Withers. Leona spent most of her life in the Yakima Valley, except when she and Bill moved to Boise for several years where he worked for Boise Cascade. They met in Yakima, and were married in Waukegan, Illinois, in 1943, where he was doing his Naval training at the Great Lakes Training Center.

Leona was a very strong, independent, and capable woman, who had a great sense of humor and was savvy about business. She was an avid reader and was never afraid to express her opinion. Crossword puzzles were a specialty of hers, if she got stuck on a word she would stay with it until she was able to solve it.  She was a gardener, growing a variety of beautiful flowers and plants to bring beauty to her life. She would later become an orchardist, specializing in apples and nectarines. Leona and Bill traveled the world when he worked for Boise Cascade, including such places as Hong Kong, Colombia, Mexico, Philippines, and China. But most of all, Leona was a spirited and spunky individual who knew how to live life to its fullest.
Leona is survived by her three daughters, Evelyn (James) Mahre, Vicki (Ralph) Boren, and Launa (Bob) Pasen. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Jill (Ted), Lisa (Kaleb), Julie (Dennis), Kristi, Adam, and Ashley (Shane), and 6 great-grandchildren, Jackson, Elizabeth, Victoria, Pasen, Barron, and Charlotte. She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Bill, and her seven siblings, Lelah, Kenneth, Lawrence, Cecil, Lillian, Milo, and Louis.

A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018, at Tahoma Cemetery (1802 Tahoma Ave, Yakima, WA 98902) at 11:00 am, followed by a reception at the Sea Galley in Union Gap. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her honor to the Yakima Area Arboretum in care of Brookside Funeral Home (PO Box 1267, Moxee, WA 98036).
