Heaven gained another angel with the passing of our mom, Mary Agnes Zauhar, on January 5, 2018, surrounded by family. Her goal was to see Christmas and her 93rd birthday.  Oh, what a celebration it was!

Mary was born on Christmas day, 1924, to John and Mary Micetic in Armstrong, Ontario, Canada. She was one of nine children.
Mary caught the eye of an Army Private, Matthew Leo Zauhar, while attending mass in her hometown. Matt was stationed at a nearby army base.
Mom moved to Washington State and they married on April 27, 1945, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Roslyn, and resided in Ronald their entire married life.
Mom was employed for 37 years with the Ronald Water District. Prior to that she spent several years working during mink pelting season, babysitting, cleaning homes and ironing. Whatever help was needed mom was there for family and friends.
Mary’s passion was crocheting. Family and friends have been blessed with many of her creations, including delicate snowflakes adorning Christmas trees, beautiful doilies and latch hook tree skirts.
Mom was an excellent cook, baker and seamstress. A couple of years her pies were voted #1 in the family bakeoff; a Thanksgiving tradition! She was a hoarder of recipes and cookbooks.
Mom enjoyed reading books particularly a good mystery.  She enjoyed working on puzzles and crossword puzzles. She loved figure skating and was treated to Stars on Ice in Seattle for many years. Accordion music was her favorite and the Blue Skirt Waltz was her favorite song. We girls learned to polka, waltz and Schottisch in the kitchen to the sounds of Frankie Yankovic.
Family was her life. She was proud of all of us. A highlight was grandson Brent Hages, oboist, who performed with Andrea Bocelli on stage in Seattle. Mom was in the audience bursting with pride.
Another highlight was grandson Blain Hages, who founded and operates Zauhar Artisian Cheese. Mom was proud to have attended the Roslyn Farmers Market to view the display that resonated all of Blain’s hard work.
She was equally proud of her two granddaughters; Nicole and Erin, their chosen spouses, and the fact she was able to dance at both weddings.
The light of her life was her grandchildren; Nicole Gladson Kennedy (Walter), Banks, OR; Brent Hages, Woodinville, WA; Blain Hages (Annie Cooper), Duvall, WA; and Erin Gladson Pugh (Adam), Issaquah, WA.
The true sparkle in her eyes came from her three great-granddaughters; Addyson Rae Kennedy, Ferne Adelle Cooper Hages and Avery Jack Kennedy. They all sang with Gigi “I love you a bushel and a peck” which became their theme song.
Three daughters survive her, Denyse Gladson, Yakima, WA. Marilyn (Terry) Walderhaug, Ellensburg, WA. and Norine (Gary) Hages, Ellensburg, WA. Others mourning her loss are surviving siblings Irene Kruzick, Fran and Esme Mitchell and sister-in-law Mary Micetic all of Canada.
Preceding her in death was husband Matt, her parents, six siblings and son in law Jack Gladson.
Due to various health issues the last six years mom was so very fortunate to live at home because Marilyn returned to Washington from California to be her caregiver.
Our family would like to thank the following for her excellent care: Dr. Kakkar, Dr. Thorner, Dr. Rowles, Dr. Harrington, Dr. Pham and Suzanne, Dr. Cleary, Dr. Jones, Dr. Ziel and Beth. The wonderful staff of Virginia Mason Memorial, Landmark Rehab who treated mom as if she were their own, especially Dr. Lauer, Trish, Rose, Kat, Cindy, Darren and Phil and many more too numerous to name.
