Shirley Marsh died in her home and passed into the loving arms of God on December 21, 2017, after a short and brave battle with cancer. Shirley Diane Purdin was born in Yakima on June 6, 1945, to Marvin and Alice Purdin. As a child she loved playing with her best friends and cousins who lived next door. Her fondest childhood memories were of the time she spent with her grandparents on their farm in Selah.

Shirley attended Adams Elementary, Washington Junior High, Davis High School and Yakima Valley College. She worked at Roche Fruit for many years and then at Price Fruit. She loved meeting people and helping others.
On August 17, 1962, she married Bervil Marsh.  Best friends since childhood and high school sweethearts, together they built a home and family for their children and grandchildren.  They enjoyed traveling, and together saw the Grand Canyon, her mother’s childhood home in North Dakota, and Yellowstone.  She especially enjoyed trips to Disneyland with her children and grandchildren.  Bervil and Shirley celebrated their 55th anniversary in August in Long Beach, WA, their favorite vacation spot.
Shirley was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and cherished time with her family.  She loved to attend her children and grandchildren’s activities and events.  A great cook who was devoted to her family, she made every picnic and barbeque special.  Her sense of humor brought joy to friends and family alike.  She shone brightest when she was with her grandchildren and cherished her relationships with each of them.
Shirley was always quick to send cards and letters of encouragement, congratulations and condolence. When her friends sent out a call for help, she was there. She had a kind heart and was loved by many.  If Shirley considered you a friend, you were blessed to have a loyal friend for life.
Shirley is survived by her husband Bervil Marsh; her children Leslee Caul and Buck (Karrie) Marsh; grandchildren David Caul, and Elizabeth, Meredith, Audrey and Charlie Marsh; sister Janice Kellam and brother Stan (Charlotte) Purdin.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Margie Vavricka.
Shirley will be forever missed and always in our hearts. Her family would like to thank Heartlink Hospice and Aging and Long-Term Care for their support.  As an expression of sympathy, a memorial contribution may be sent to The American Cancer Society.
A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at The Christian Life Center (716 N 40th Avenue, Yakima, WA) on January 5, 2018 at 11:00 AM.  A reception will follow.
