Robert A. McMahan passed away Sunday, November 12, 2017 at home in Wapato. He was born July 23, 1926 in Yakima to Omar and Irene McMahan. His Grandfather planted a blue spruce the day he was born on 16th avenue where they lived, and it is still there after 91 years. At the age of 4, his family moved to Lateral C in Wapato where his folks had a grocery store on the corner of W. Wapato Rd. and Lateral C. Being raised in that store is where he got the grocery store bug! His family moved the store and home a mile down the road to Lateral B – where he has lived for 73 years.

Bob married Janet Jesser on June 1, 1946. They celebrated 71 years of marriage this past June. In the early 1950’s Bob worked for Safeway then Layman’s. During that time, he purchased an orchard and worked at Layman’s and the ranch until he retired in 1970. Bob’s passion was growing fruit for his fruit stand “Harvest House”. Bob retired from farming at the age of 88.

Bob is survived by his wife, Janet. His son, Alan (Kris) McMahan, daughter, Nancy (Jerry) Michel, as well as his brother, Dick (Marilyn) McMahan. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Jason McMahan, Jonathan Michel, Michelle Hellstrom, and Heather Michel, as well as eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
