Loraine Beard, 92, went to her heavenly home on November 7, 2017 at Willow Springs Care.  Loraine was born the daughter of Melvin and Clara (Billet) Hellickson on May 14, 1925, in Kathryn, North Dakota.  She attended school in North Dakota and then moved to Portland, Oregon where she met her husband Warren.  They welcomed five sons into their family.  They moved many times for Warren's job, finally retiring in Selah.

Loraine worked for several years at Libby's in Yakima, and Matson's in Selah.  While a member of Peace Lutheran church in Selah, she served as church librarian.  Loraine loved baking and doing crafts of all types.  She did a lot of quilting including helping make numerous quilts with the LWML that were sent to missions.  She also helped make lap quilts that were sent to the VA Hospital, with the Selah American Legion Auxiliary, where she had also served as Chaplain.  Loraine knew her Bible and was a charter member and co-founder of the Thursday Morning Ladies Bible Study for over 30 years. She was also a proud member of the Sons of Norway.  Loraine was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Yakima.

Loraine is survived by her sons, Warren Beard, Jr., Melvin (Jovencia) Beard, Marvin (Karen) Beard, Milton Beard, and Malcolm Beard.  She is also survived by her sister, Harriet (Kenneth) Fliegel, 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.  She always ended her visits with "the kids" with the words "remember Grandma loves you."
