Evelyn Irene McClure passed away on October 31, 2017, at her home with her family by her side. She was born June 27, 1927 to parents, Harold and Dorothy Brown. She grew up on the farm in Badger Pocket, Ellensburg, which her parents homesteaded in 1923. She had two brothers Melvin Brown of Quincy and Barton Brown of Lake Washington. She is preceded in death by husband R.B., her parents and brother Barton.

Evelyn loved the farm she grew up on. As a child she enjoyed swimming, riding her bike and 4H projects such as knitting and dress making.

Her family was known as the Sears and Roebuck family in the Valley. They were in many early Sears and Roebuck catalogs for clothes as well as farm implements.

Evelyn learned to cook and sew her own clothes at a very early age. She loved to cook and bake for her family as well as the hired hands.

She later met the love of her life R.B. McClure and later married. Later they lived and worked the farm where they had two boys, Terry and Bob. Together they lived on the farm until 1963 at which time they moved in to town.

Evelyn worked at Puget Power for several years and then went to work at Barge Hall at Central, until her retirement. She made many close friends at Central and loved the work as well as the people she worked with. She also loved working with the students.

After she retired, she and R.B. spent lots of time in the mountains, where she always felt she was close to God. They loved camping, hunting, fishing, boating, shrimping, clamming and just spending time on the water. They kept their boat at Sequim and Neah Bay for years and spent months at a time enjoying being on the boat. Evelyn loved picking huckleberries and she always did a lot of canning. She also loved to play bridge and spend time with the people who had the same love for the game as her.

Mom shared many great memories with her family as well as R.B.’s family. They loved to entertain relatives on both sides of the family. R.B.’s sisters, Ella, Mae and Marylee, Catherine, Virginia and brothers Mel, James and Harold and all their children.

Evelyn has seven grandchildren, Terry’s three daughters; Tracy, Nichole and Heidi. Bob’s children sons; Bobby, Mark and daughters; Jamie and Heather. Seventeen great grandchildren; Thomas, Bryant, Arianne, Heather, Elizabeth, Savannah, Ashley, Dominic and Yolanda, Marcus, Melissa, Garrett, Abigail, Scarlet, Sarah, Asher and Gabriel.

Following the death of her husband R.B., Evelyn met Ken Broostrom and they spent their time together doing the things they both loved like camping and traveling and each other’s company. She enjoyed spending time with Ken’s family, son Bob and his wife Margaret and daughter Karen.

She had a tremendous love for dogs and later in life she inherited her little dog Sparky, the sun rose and set on her little dog and they did everything with him, he was a true companion.

Evelyn was the kind of Mother and Grandmother that every child could ever wish to have. She was extremely loved. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her for her kindness, understanding, comfort, compassion and love for anyone and everyone.
