On the beautiful fall morning of October 27, 2017, our mom, grandmother, and wife passed peacefully out of this life and into Heaven.
The eldest of three children, she was born on May 5, 1931 to John Cotter and Carmen (Andersen) Rochel, in Yakima. The family moved to the Nile Valley when Jerry was a young girl. She attended school in Naches thru the 8th grade. After her parents divorced she left school to take care of her dad and help raise her siblings. Around September of 1948 she went with her mother to a dance at the Nob Hill Grange. There she met the young man who would become her husband. After a short courtship and at the age of 17 she became Mrs. Jack A. Casseday, in February 1949. They moved to Seattle, bought a home and started a family. Jack and Jerry had three daughters. All three were born horse crazy. In 1967 the family moved to Naches – back to the Nile Valley and into a log home that Jack and his father in law built. We, the daughters got horses and so the horse show life began. Dad hauled us to shows and mom became the best horse show mom ever. Her happiest years were spent attending the open horse shows at the Central Washington State Fair. We were fortunate to be exhibitors and compete for over 25 years, when the barns were near to overflowing. Mom loved decorating our stalls and worked tirelessly to make sure our aisleway was constantly swept clean.
Jerry was a wife, mom, and homemaker. She also worked for many years in various fruit warehouses. She became the sorting boss at Kershaw Fruit. Mom loved her family and having everyone gather in their home for Thanksgiving dinners. She especially loved Christmas and every year their home reflected that. She enjoyed reading, her flowers in the spring, and loved all animals. In her last year’s her closest companions were her two little dogs, Jesse and Mandy.
Mom is survived by her devoted husband, Jack, they celebrated 68 years of marriage, her daughters, Sara (David) Jenssen and Erin Casseday, brothers, Jim (Cheryl) Rochel and Darron (Gloria) Beall, and a sister, Sharon Ehrig. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Dru Jenssen, Abby (Keith) Morrissey, Leif (Alexis) Jenssen, and Jacob (Megan) Buchanan, two great grandchildren, Selah and Blue Jenssen, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Jo Peck, and a daughter, Lizzy Casseday.
Our family would like to thank Selah Care and Rehab and Heartlinks Hospice for the end of life care they provided.
At the request of the family no services will be held.
