Ignacio M. “Peewee” Alamos, passed away on Monday, October 9, 2017 at Cottage in The Meadow surrounded by loved ones after a four-month battle with cancer. Peewee was born in Toppenish, WA in 1944 and lived there until his family moved to Yakima where he started school, graduating from Central Catholic High School in 1962. Peewee married Helen Rediske and together their two children, Kristine and John, were born.

Peewee was a true “jack of all trades”, working many jobs to support his family. He took pride in his work and businesses, some of them being: Board Member of People for People, 1962 Reunion Committee, landlord of 23 rentals, owner of a yard service, co-owner of Yakima Implement, owner of Sun Valley Irrigation, a second hand store, and food concessions. His dream was to own his own restaurant with his mom cooking for him (she said no!).

He completed his BA Business degree from Yakima Valley College, coached his daughter’s softball team, and coached his son in football and the Explorers. He enjoyed teaching many life lessons and giving great advice to anyone that would listen. Peewee was a true and loyal friend, however, family was most important to him and he seldom missed a family party or celebration.

In 2010, Peewee married Barbara Layman, the love of his life (his angel). His one regret in life is leaving her alone.

His favorite things were family, grandchildren, step-children and great grandchildren and all the activities they were in. He loved gambling, fishing at Dog Lake, football, the Class of “62” breakfasts, reunions and friends.

Peewee is survived by his wife, Barbara Alamos, and children, Kristine (Russell) Thomas and John (Luann) Alamos, four grandchildren, Josh (Devan) Bartlett, Ashley Alamos, Ciara Bartlett and Colton Bartlett, great grandchildren, Blaze, Ryder and Harlow Bartlett, his father, Ignacio T. Alamos, two brothers, Richard (Pam) Alamos and Michael (Pam) Alamos, three sisters, Pat Zimmer, Ana (Vic) Jausard, and Susie (Steve) Switzer, special aunt, Ruth (Leon) Gutierrez, good friends, Loren & Dot Kitts, step-children, Julie (Steve) Leitch, Jodie Presley and Robert (Charlotte) Layman, 7 step-grandchildren, Courtney, Alexandrea, Hailey, and Daniel Leitch, and Wyatt, Westin, and Cash Layman. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that made his last four months a special time with prayers, love, and visits. Peewee is preceded in death by his beautiful mother, Susie Arellano Alamos.

Heartfelt thanks to Chaplain Peggy Urlacher of Memorial Hospice and Dr. Kakaar of Cornerstone for their love and compassion.
