Dorothy (Dottie) Matson, 84, of Selah, passed away September 18, 2017, while vacationing in Laughlin, Nevada.  She was always active and happy, enjoying time with her friends in Laughlin until a very sudden illness caused her death.  She was born August 25, 1933 in Yakima to Irving Morgan and Alta (Trumbull) Morgan, she was the 5th of 7 children. She is preceded in death by her husband, Marc Matson, sisters, Betty Shelton, Ruth Poole, and Tina Taylor, and brothers, Ray Morgan and Dawn Morgan. Dottie is lovingly survived by her daughters, Dee Petersen (Harlan) of Goose Prairie, Terri Wentz (Rick) of Zillah, son, Doug Matson of Selah, granddaughters, Lacey Shamion (Nik) of Eugene, OR, Josie Wentz of Zillah, great granddaughter, Finley Marie Shamion of Eugene, OR, and sister, Joan Rasmussen of Selah.

Dottie graduated from Yakima High and attended Junior College in Yakima. She was married to Marc Matson, where they owned and operated Cascade Orchards and later, Matson Brothers Orchard with Marc’s brother Paul Matson in Selah and Zillah.
The family enjoyed many years snowmobiling and spending time in the mountains. Marc and Dottie were 4-H leaders for the Kountry Klover Kids, for the Horse Club.  Many wonderful weekends were spent at Owens Arena in Selah and Fairs around the valley.  Marc and Dottie formed life-long relationships with their friends, especially the “Over The Hill Gang”, meeting with them regularly for dinners and cards.
Dad and Mom’s home was always a warm and welcome place for friends and family.
Dottie was very proud of her granddaughters Lacey and Josie, and spent many years attending baseball, basketball, volley ball games, and track meets.
In later years, they spent winters in Laughlin, Nevada with their dog Charlie Brown, and once again made friends with a wonderful group of Snowbirds there.  After Marc passed away, Dottie found love, friendship and warm weather in Laughlin.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Dottie had a strong faith and always felt that good things would happen to her. She was a shining example to all of us.  We will miss you Mom.
