Dearly loved father, brother, and husband – Terry Joseph Gamache, 67, formerly of Toppenish, passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at his home in Costa Rica.
Terry was born in Yakima, Washington on January 19,1950.  He was the 3rd child of Amos and Elsie Gamache. Terry spent much of his time growing up on the family hop farm in Toppenish, where he learned the value of hard work.  He attended St. Paul’s and Carroll High School and completed his education at Gonzaga University.  It was there that he met the love of his life, Patricia Hagan. They were married in 1971 in Washington DC. After graduating from college in 1972, Terry and Patricia moved to Toppenish where they settled down on the ranch, renovated an old farm house, and had two children, Graham and Alyson.
During their 39 years of marriage, Terry and Patricia loved spending their time together traveling around the world, indulging in exotic cuisine and new cultures; relaxing and fishing at their cabin on Lake Quesnel in Canada each summer; and spending lots of time in Costa Rica, where Patricia’s parents had retired. Terry especially loved to go deep-sea fishing in the Pacific waters of Costa Rica for days on end, where he will be remembered holding many a gigantic Dorado with a very satisfied look on his face.
After retiring from the family farm six years ago, Terry moved to San Jose, Costa Rica, where he loved the warm weather and the culture that he had gotten to know so well over the many years of travel there.  He found happiness in these last years with his girlfriend Erica, adventuring in Columbia and Cuba.
One of Terry’s most defining characteristics was his long and storied relationship with the family’s hop and apple farm, which his father had passed down to him and his brother, Michael, and was his life’s work.  He knew every inch of the farm intimately and worked very hard, a passion he passed down to his son, Graham.  Terry was incredibly proud to see Graham take over the farm in recent years, moving the business forward and having success, with an effort and determination learned by watching his dad get up early every morning and hop into his truck to go to work.
Terry was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 39 years, Patricia; his parents, Amos and Elsie Gamache; his baby sister, Cindy Gamache; and two nephews, Aaron & Derek Gamache.  He is survived by his son, Graham (Andreana) Gamache of Toppenish; daughter, Alyson (Robert) Hervatine of Spokane, WA; grandchildren, Amara and Anabelle Gamache; sister, Lana Gamache-Bradley (Don) Bradley of San Carlos, CA; brother, Michael (Clara) Gamache of Yakima, WA; sister, Janet (Jim) Davis of Mill Creek, WA; and many dear brother and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews, and close friends.
A Vigil Service will be held Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. at St. Paul Cathedral Family Chapel.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, September 8th at 12:00 pm at St. Paul Cathedral.  Concluding services and burial will follow at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations can be made in Terry’s name to The Terry and Patricia Gamache Scholarship Fund for La Salle High School in Union Gap.  Terry truly believed in the importance of La Salle, and had been very generous to its cause over the years.  Nothing would please him more than for his legacy to provide scholarship, so that more kids will be able to share in its vision.
