Verda Loree (Bibler) Johnson, 93, of Yakima, died on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at Miles Adult Family Home “Izzy’s”.  She was born on May 12, 1924, in Webster City, Iowa, the daughter of David Dawson Bibler and Essy Grace Bibler.

Verda graduated from high school in Webster City, Iowa and attended business college for 2 years in Des Moines, Iowa before getting a position as a bookkeeper at a CPA office in Denver, Colorado.  It was here that she met the love of her life, and on May 17, 1947 she was united in marriage to Clifford Johnson in Colorado Springs, Colorado where she gave birth to each of their four children.  They lived in Colorado Springs until 1954 when they moved to Fountain, Colorado where Cliff combined his masonry skills with those of a farmer and Verda’s time was taken up in raising their 4 children in addition to work as a bookkeeper for the Western Horseman.

Following Cliff’s retirement from both farming and masonry, they returned to Colorado Springs to live in the duplex that Cliff built many years before.  It was here that Verda was diagnosed with Alzheimers and her health began to fail.  Realizing that they would both require more attention, Cliff and Verda moved to Yakima, Washington in 2006 to be near their daughter, Twyla, for continued care.   In her spare time, Verda enjoyed crafts, reading and spending time with her friends, family and children.  She was extremely active in the Fountain, Colorado United Methodist Church keeping their books and chairing the Building Committee.  She also was an active member of the Fountain Home Extension Club and supported her children in their many 4-H Club activities.  She will be remembered by many for her love of life, dedication and support to family, and kindness and friendship with all she met.

Verda is survived by her husband of 70 years, Clifford L. Johnson of Yakima; four children, Merle Johnson of Pharr, Texas, Neal (Ellie) Johnson of Phoenix, Arizona, Lars (Susie) Johnson of Arvada, Colorado, and Twyla (Jim) Vimont of Yakima and grandchildren; Melissa Reynolds, Luke Johnson, Brett Johnson, Stacy Hedrick, Caren Corliss, Margaret (Meg) Koning, Katharine Olsen, Carlie Johnson, Heather Carlson, Miriam Nikkila, Nathaniel Vimont, and Christian Vimont; and 21 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Dawson and Essy Bibler, her brothers, Orlo and Stanley Bibler, and her sister, Telva Fredrick.

Visitation will be on Saturday, August 26, 2017 from 9:00-10:00 a.m., and the Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 a.m., both at West Valley Missionary Church (11107 Wide Hollow Road, Yakima, WA) followed by the Graveside Service at West Hills Memorial Park, (11800 Douglas Road, Yakima, WA.).  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Alzheimer’s Association, in care of Brookside Funeral Home (PO Box 1267, Moxee, WA 98936)
