Joanne Pugh passed away peacefully on Monday, Aug. 14 in Yakima, Washington. She was 86 years old.
Joanne was born June 8, 1931 in Poulsbo, Washington to Theodore and Josie Ellingboe. She went to Central Washington University and enjoyed a 30 year career teaching kindergarten and first grade. She and her husband Durward (Dar) married September 18, 1954 and enjoyed their time living in both Washington State and Canada.
Joanne lived a blessed and fulfilling life, and was eminently loved within her community. She adored music, and was passionate about teaching reading to children. Joanne was fond of baking bread and other Norwegian goodies, which she frequently did for her family and friends. She also enjoyed a good cup of coffee at any time of day. Joanne was a longtime member of the First Lutheran Church in Ellensburg, Washington, where she often played the organ for the Sunday service, and was once Teen Choir Director.
She leaves us rich with memories of her rendition of Silent Night, her famous cinnamon rolls and chocolate chip cookies, her contagious laugh and her bright smile. Joanne’s kind and generous character will be dearly missed and cherished by every life she touched. Her wonderful sense of humor will continue to thrive through Pugh generations to come.
She is survived by her three children, Cheri Ward of Ellensburg, Greg Pugh of Ronald, and Marla Pugh of Zebulon, North Carolina; grandchildren Shane Pugh of Bellevue, Kyra Pugh of Ellensburg, Erin Krueger of Oakland, California; siblings Cle Ellingboe and Dee Pargeter, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sisters Anne, Esther, her brother Tom, her longtime companion of her later years, Ralph, and her husband Durward Pugh.
