Douglas Alan Brown, 67, died peacefully surrounded by his family on July 23, 2017. Doug was born on May 30, 1950, the son of Donald and Colista (Overstreet) Brown in Yakima, WA. He attended school in Selah, where he graduated in 1968. Following high school Doug studied business at Washington State University. He met his first wife Deborah Wingerter while working a summer job at a fruit packing warehouse in Yakima and welcomed three children, Rachel, Phillip, and Theodore. They were married 23 years. Doug later married Kristin Jared with whom he enjoyed eight years of marriage.

Doug grew up in the Yakima Valley where his grandfather fostered Doug’s love for horses. In high school Doug excelled in sports, particularly wrestling, for which he earned a scholarship at YVCC. He also enjoyed hunting and spending time with his buddies at Elk Camp. Time spent in the mountains with family and friends camping, boating, skiing, and horseback riding brought him happiness. He was fascinated with bodybuilding and loved weightlifting with his sons. Doug was an accomplished horseman and even competed in roping competitions. He always took an interest in his children’s sporting events and encouraged his kids in their endeavors. And, of course, he loved his grandchildren and spent as much time as he could with them.
Doug is survived by his three children, Rachel (Lawrence) Frank, Phillip (Yen) Brown, and Theodore Brown. He is also survived by his brother, David Brown, and sister Karen Schmitten. Doug is also survived by his grandchildren; Lauren, Natalie, Allison, Emily, and Benjamin Frank, and Zoe and Leia Brown. Grandchildren, Ellie and Trent Jared, were shared with his second wife, Kristin.
A Memorial Service will be held to honor the life of Doug on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at the Grace of Christ Presbyterian Church (9 S 8th Ave, Yakima, WA, 98902) at 11:00 am. A reception will follow the service.
