Christin “Chris” Walker, age 51, passed peacefully on June 23, 2017, after complications from a recent illness.  For those of us who knew Chris throughout his adult life, we had the opportunity to see Chris as an individual who persistently and passionately advocated on behalf of persons with disabilities, whether it was repeated calls to the Governor’s office to insist that Washington’s remaining institutions be closed or marching on the Capitol steps in Olympia with signs proclaiming “Nothing about Us Without Us.” With the other members of the Ellensburg People First Chapter, he was given a standing ovation at the annual statewide convention by over 250 people at the showing of their video titled “Living Free.”

Chris never hesitated to let any of us know when we could be providing better services and how it needed to be fixed. Chris also loved mechanics, taking anything apart, and he would work diligently at trying to put it back together again. He always called just to make sure we were doing well and were well informed, even when he was unable to physically be there.
Chris was surrounded by a large group of friends and family who cared, loved, and appreciated him, and he gave that back. Friendships were important to Chris; he enjoyed being active in the community and liked to participate in social activities. He participated in several Special Olympics Sports and earned many medals. Chris had a laugh that was infectious, carrying you with him in his humor. He will be remembered for many, many things, but for those whose lives he impacted, life will be a little less exciting without him.
A Celebration of Chris’ Life is planned for Friday, July 14th at 1:00PM at Mercer Creek Church.  Brookside Funeral Home is caring for the family.
