Jerry Goronea passed away peacefully outdoors on his farm on June 27,2017 with his family by his side and his brother-in-law, Mike, playing favorite songs on the guitar,. Jerry was born April 8, 1948 in Youngstown, Ohio and raised in Pennsylvania and Florida. He attended the Marine Engineers Academy in Baltimore after high school and spent years traveling the world while working on ships.

Jerry bought a farm in the Kittitas Valley in the mid-70’s, pursuing his dream of organic farming while still working in the merchant marine. Later he worked as a power plant operator in Oregon and at Central Washington University.
He and Anne Read were married on July 7, 1979. Together they grew River Farm, later joined by their daughters and son-in-law. Throughout this time, he mentored many young people in the practices of organic farming so important to him.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Anne; daughters Leah and Liz (Eric Welsch); granddaughters Violet and Emmaline Welsch, who were the light of his life. He is also survived by two sisters, Ginny Valletti and Nancy Zarella and a large extended family. Jerry loved boats, fishing, the sea, trains, cooking, fireworks and old westerns, among other things. Most of all, he loved his family.
Private family services will be held and his ashes spread at sea. A celebration of life will take place later this summer at the farm.
Memorials may be made to Hospice or FISH.
