Lloyd Schmidt, 76, passed away on Monday, June 19, 2017 at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after surgery.  He was born and raised in Yakima, WA, Lloyd was the son of Paul and Elizabeth Schmidt. He was a lifelong resident of Yakima. Lloyd got an early start working as he began in the grocery business during junior high and that continued until 1988.  He was the Assistant Manager at Mead’s Market Foods. He truly cherished the people that he met while working there. He joined the Air Force in 1959 and was stationed in Texas. He married Vickie Schoch in 1968. In 1988, Lloyd began working for the WA State Dept. of Agriculture and worked there until his retirement.

At that time, Lloyd began his daily retirement "job” as a ranch hand at his son’s orchard/property, which included mowing the orchards, pruning trees, planting countless flowers, and helping with harvest. He painted, landscaped, and chopped wood. He aspired to keep the grounds parklike. And he did. It was his passion and he took great pride in this. This continued for years, as he loved outdoors and gardening. He had quite the green thumb. He cherished watching his granddaughter’s games, watching Gonzaga play, and a win from the Seahawks.  He was known for his sense of humor, kind heart, pristine cars, cowboy boots, and ability to plow through anything life threw at him.

Aside from spending time in the outdoors, Lloyd spent much time doing what he loved: spending time with people.  People knew and loved him wherever he went. He had many, many friends.

He leaves his son, Brian Schmidt of Yakima, and daughter, Cheryl (Ryan) Vance of Modesto, CA; sisters, Rosemarie Shay, of Seattle and Darlene (Robert) Myhre, of Wenatchee; as well as two grandchildren, Jack Vance and Peyton Schmidt.
