Nathan Thompson, most loved father, brother and friend passed away unexpectedly and way too soon on May 22, 2017. He was 52. Everyone who knew him will miss his wit, laugh and genuine kindness. His passing leaves a deep hole in the hearts of his family, friends, and the community.

Nathan was born to Ralph and Patricia Thompson in Yakima, the youngest of 5 children, and grew up in Selah, graduating from Selah High School in 1983. He is survived by his daughters, Brittany (29) of Santa Barbara, CA, and Sydney (24) of Yakima, whom he adored; and brothers, Dave and Mat, and sister, Valerie.

Nathan served the City of Yakima for 25 years. His career started in 1992 as a cashier in the Utilities Division. In 1994 he became a Department Assistant 2, in 1995 he was promoted again and by 1997 he was a Code Enforcement Officer. In 2001 he became Yakima's favorite Code Inspector :) Nathan loved working with people and was a government employee that was truly there to help. No Joke! His work reflected his dedication to safety first and foremost while also supporting each person’s needs and goals whether they be a small business, a large company, a top of the line custom home, or someone doing their own remodel. Nathan cared about each and every one.

Nathan lived life with a flare. He loved music, comedy, and art and was known for his sense of style. He was a kid at heart and always knew how to have a good time. He had a passion for cars, motorcycles, boats—anything with an engine (starting early as a boy collecting hundreds of Matchbox cars)—and taking long road trips with his buddies. Above all, he was a loving, caring and selfless human being. If you knew him you were better for it. He was loved dearly by everyone who had the honor of knowing him. We’ll miss him so much.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, May 27th from 1-5 pm at the Seasons Performance Hall, 101 N Naches Ave, Yakima. All are welcome. Memorial contributions may be made to the Seasons Performance Hall in c/o Brookside Funeral Home, PO Box 1267, Moxee, WA 98936.
