Helen E. Wangler, 85, of Yakima, peacefully passed away on May 20, 2017, with her loving family surrounding her, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born on February 22, 1932 in Yakima to Matthew and Wilhelmina Huck. She was born on the kitchen table in her family’s home on Swan Avenue as the youngest of 12 children. She married Paul Wangler on September 30, 1950.  To this marriage was born 6 children.

Helen was a stay at home mom until all of her children were in school.  The family moved to Selah in 1966, where she went to work for Selah Schools for 23 years as the “lunch lady” where all of her grandchildren came to visit her in the kitchen. The Selah children remember her as the “lunch lady” that drove the yellow Jeep.  She retired in 1989.

The family has many memories of the summers spent at Blue Lake, where they camped, fished, and water skied.  Though Helen couldn’t swim, with several life jackets, she conquered water skiing like a pro. They spent many hours filled with picnics, cousins, and family times.  Helen loved her nightly Bingo sessions and the holiday trips to Reno.

Her home was always warm, clean, and inviting.  She was a very welcoming hostess who knew how to be an amazing cook, even without a recipe. Helen kept her flower beds in beautiful condition, which was part of her welcoming and nurturing way.  She enjoyed dancing, whooping  it up with her sisters to the Polka and doing the Chicken dance with her grandchildren. After retirement, she enjoyed golfing and snow birding to Hemett, California, where they made so many new friends, who became like family. Helen was also a proud member of the Elks Club and a member of St Paul Cathedral, where she volunteered many hours. Helen had a special way of soothing and loving on her grandchildren. She loved her family well and will be dearly missed in the lives of those she impacted.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 67 years, Paul Wangler, and their children, Ronald (Sue) Wangler, Sue (Ron) Bernier, Paul Wangler Jr., Don (Kim) Wangler, Bob (Dalynn) Wangler and Renee McQuesten.  The grandchildren which she adored include Nicole, Scottie, Jamie, Dusty, Jenny, Dakota, Kendal, Donnie, Julie, Jeff, Bobby, Brandy, Matthew, Jonathon, Jacob, April, Trisha, Jennifer, and Charlie, as well as 21 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her brothers Frank Huck and Johnnie Huck, and her sister, Rosie Kozacek.  She is preceded in death by her parents, and her son in law, Mark McQuesten, and 8 of her siblings.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the Chandler House for the many years they lovingly cared for Helen.

A private family viewing and blessing was held at Brookside Funeral Home.  Mass Of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 10th, 2017 at 9:00AM at St Paul Cathedral, followed by a reception.  In addition to flowers, the family would appreciate memorial contributions be made to Alzheimer’s Association, in care of Brookside Funeral Home (PO Box 1267, Moxee, WA 98936).

Thank you, mom, for being the best wife, mom,
grandma, sister, and aunt that any family could ever ask for.
We love you!
