Florence Frye passed away on May 18, 2017. She was born in Ellensburg, WA on January 24, 1934 to Allan J. and Reeta (Oliver) McCracken. She completed her education in the Ellensburg School System where she excelled in vocal music. She graduated from Ellensburg High School in 1952 and entered Central Washington College of Education that same year. At Central she was a member of the Central Singers under the direction of Dr. Wayne Hertz and repeatedly sang solos with that group.
 
Florence graduated from Central in 1956 and married Ronald Frye that same year. She began her teaching career at the Thorp Elementary School and then went on to teach in Wenatchee for several years. Florence also taught in the Joplin and Columbia, Missouri schools.
 
Florence and Ron returned to Ellensburg in 1966 where she continued to pursue her vocal talent, singing with the Yakima Symphony Chorus for 16 years. Florence also participated in many operas. One of which was The Marriage of Figaro, in which she had a leading role. With the Yakima Symphony Chorus, she was able to sing at Carnegie Hall with the Chorus. She was most proud of this accomplishment.
 
Florence was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Marvin and Loren McCracken. She is survived by her husband of almost 61 years, Ron; sister Coralie Noonan of Danbury, CT; she is also survived by her two children, Curtis G. Frye of Hawthorne, CA, and Carlene K. Frye of Ellensburg; one grandchild, Adrienne Marie Jensen, also of Ellensburg, and many nieces and nephews. 
Florence was most proud of her marriage to the love of her life, Ron, her children, and most especially her granddaughter.
 
At her request, there will be no Funeral Service; however, her family will be having a Celebration of Her Life with a gathering at Rodeo City BBQ on, Saturday, May 27, 2017 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm (204 N. Main Street, Ellensburg, WA 98926). In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Ellensburg Hospice/Hospice Friends in her memory in care of Brookside Funeral Home (101 E. 2nd Ave, Ellensburg, WA 98926).
