Viola Ruth Cota (Minaker), “The Crazy Mom”, was born Aug 27, 1934 to Lloyd and Ruth Garrison (later adopted by Walter Ware) in Seattle Washington and passed on Feb 22, 2017 in Ellensburg WA.

She is survived by her sister, Martha Simon, her 6 children: David Minaker & wife Gerry, John Minaker, Wes Minaker, Mark Minaker & wife Linda, Evelyn White & Kent Minaker. She had 6 grandchildren, 8 grandchildren & many nieces and nephews.

She was married to Ken Minaker for 15yrs and they raised their children mostly in Renton, WA. Many excellent home cooked meals & lots of neighborhood kids filled the house and fields/forest around their home. Viola was not a “typical” Mom, prone to speaking (and acting out) her mind when and to whom she felt the strains of injustice or impatience. She was an animal lover so there was always a family dog and/or cat. Later in life, she was known for taking in the strays and taking better care of them than of herself.

She divorced and & began her journey to achieve her Masters in Education, graduating from Seattle University and specializing in assisting dyslexic students and teaching them how to use their “gift” to excel in academia and beyond. She moved to Las Vegas and married Andy Cota, continued with her education as well as assisted others in their educational pursuits.  She divorced again, staying in Nevada and became an elementary teacher, a UPS driver and worked in journalism, her passion.

She had a series of accidents involving head trauma that took her out of her field of work and she eventually returned to WA to be with her family. She suffered through several stokes and progressive dementia until she indicated “no more” (she could no longer talk or move on her own), and passed surrounded by the Love of all her children and caregivers.

Her Celebration of Life will be held in on Sat May 20th from 2:00 pm -5:00 pm at Rodeo City Bar-B-Q, 204 N Main St.  Buffet and beverages provided for friends and family and mostly as a THANK YOU to all of her amazing Caregivers. Please come and share your stories, laughter and tears.
