Stephen Michael Drapeau, 59, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ in Heaven on May 4, 2017 at the Cottage in the Meadow after a long, three-year battle with cancer. Steve was born on July 24, 1957, the son of William Drapeau and Deloris (Legare) Cutting in Franklin, New Hampshire.

A man who loved the adventures of camping, hiking, and spending time with lifelong friends and family.  His favorite pastimes were the many camping trips to the beach and flying kites.  During the camping off seasons, Steve enjoyed working on cars in his shop while listening to talk radio and supporting his favorite East Valley Basketball team.  Mechanics were his passion and perfection was his goal.  A man willing to fix anything anywhere with whatever he could find gave him the nickname "Stevegyver".

Steve faithfully served in the Army for four years out of high school and remained a very patriotic man.  Friendships he made in the Army brought him and his family to Yakima in 1980 where he was hired as a Mechanic for the Yakima County Road Department, from which he retired after 35 years.

Although work was important to him, Steve's passion was ignited when Grandchildren came into the picture.  He created a special memory with each one.  Playing cards, chess, checkers, swinging on the playground, shooting BB guns, or teaching a life lesson.  He will forever be in their hearts.

Steve is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 40 years, Connie, and their children, Whitney (Sheena) Drapeau, and Tricia (Kyle) Harrison. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Tanna, Kayson, Kinley, and Thatcher Harrison, and Patrick and Isabella Drapeau.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Union Gap (2706 S. 2nd St, Union Gap, WA 98903).  Memorial contributions are suggested to North Star Lodge, in care of Brookside Funeral Home (PO Box 1267, Moxee, WA 98936), who is caring for the family.
