Marjorie B. Hargreaves (Marge), loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, died Sunday, April 9, 2017 at Cottage in The Meadow with her family by her side. Marge was born in Seattle on January 25, 1923 to Joseph and Adele Bowling. She was the youngest of 6 children, 5 girls and one boy. She graduated from Garfield High School and attended the University of Washington where she was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority. After college Marge went to work for the Northwestern Insurance Company in Seattle and it was there that she met her husband of 59 years, James W. Hargreaves. They married in Seattle on July 19, 1943 and moved to Yakima in 1945 where they raised a family of 6 children, 5 boys and one girl. When Marge’s youngest child entered the first grade, she returned to the workplace and was one of the first employees of the Catholic Credit Union. Her warm smile, professionalism, intelligence and charming demeanor made her a favorite of the Credit Union Members and she was eventually promoted to Treasurer and General Manager. She retired from the Catholic Credit Union in 1989.

Marge was a wonderful and devoted mother and had a passion for snow skiing, water skiing, gardening, golf and being anywhere with family and friends.  Each summer the entire family would spend the weekends waterskiing. She always had a positive attitude and an exceptional sense of humor which she employed often while raising her 6 children. Marge was active in her Church and her children’s schools. She was a frequent volunteer to numerous charitable organizations including the United Way.  She and Jim enjoyed their long-term membership in the Gyro Club of Yakima and the Yakima Elks Club where she volunteered in the Junior golf program for several years.
Marge was a caring and nurturing mother. When her only daughter Jeanne was diagnosed with ALS, Marge actively participated in Jeanne’s care during the last few years of her life.
Marge is survived by her 5 sons, Bill Hargreaves of San Diego, Richard Hargreaves of Seattle, and Bob Hargreaves, Steve and Sandy Hargreaves, and David and Cindy Hargreaves all of Yakima; former son-in-law, Kim Rogers and his wife Kim, 8 grandchildren: Andrew Hargreaves and his wife Joanna, Randi (Rogers) Butorac and her husband Tony, Erin (Rogers) Hansen and her husband Cole, Kyle and Matt Hargreaves, Ben Hargreaves and his wife Elaina, Haley and Katie Hargreaves and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Hargreaves, her daughter, Jeanne Rogers and her four sisters and one brother.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Friday, April 28th at St. Paul Cathedral at 10:00 AM, followed by Burial at Terrace Heights Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Cottage in The Meadow for the addition of 8 new rooms, in care of Brookside Funeral Home (PO Box 1267, Moxee, WA 98936) who is caring for the family. The family would like to thank Highgate Senior living for the great care they provided to Marge for the past four years, as well as Cottage in The Meadow for the dignity and comfort they provided for her end of life.
